 Frequently Asked Questions

There are several FAQ sections below.  Click on a section to find specific FAQs for that topic.

  • What online learning platform does Camp Partridge use?
Camp Partridge is always working toward making your camp experience the best it can be! This year we are running all camps and courses through the Thinkific platform, to make them streamlined and easy to use for all. Thinkific is a wonderful platform with secure logins for each person, where they can access their own camp or course videos, digital downloads and secure Community Group all in one place!
  • Participant Expectations for Camps and Courses
Participants are expected to be kind, encouraging, and safe in all communications in the Community Group. Participants are responsible for anything and everything that they post. Participants are encouraged to engage with the Community Group throughout the course or camp. Assume positive intentions. No bullying, rude, or offensive language, images, or videos including, but not limited to, racist, sexist, classist, political, homophobic, and transphobic speech are tolerated. Sharing of links, videos, or materials provided by Camp Partridge with anyone else is prohibited. Sharing any screenshots or screencasts of any portion of the camp, course, or Community Group is also strictly forbidden. No promoting or advertising allowed. Participants are asked to report any rule breaking immediately to Ashley privately via email at ashley@camppartridge.com.
  • What is Camp Partridge's dedication to online safety?
Camp Partridge works hard to ensure that our online learning platform is a safe and secure place for campers and course participants to engage with others. Most of the camp and course work is done on your own, through video lessons and projects. There is one interactive feature some courses and camps have access to; a closed Community Group through our Thinkific site (similar to a closed Facebook group where only members enrolled in the course or camp may participate). We expect all campers and course participants to abide by our Participant Expectations at all times while engaging online. At the beginning of each course or camp, participants are required to read/view safety and expectations slideshows before they begin their learning. If we find that campers or course participants are not adhering to the expectations set forth by Camp Partridge, they may be removed from any courses, camps, and/or Community Groups they are a part of without prior notice. Please see our Refunds section on this page for more information.

A computer or tablet/iPad is recommended. A computer is recommended for the Photoshop camp. Internet Access to the Internet is required in order to log into your Thinkific account to view course and camp videos and digital downloads, as well as to interact with other participants in our private Community Groups. Printable handouts Some camps will also have project pages or handouts available. Campers may print these handouts or project pages, or they may just view them digitally if a printer is not available. These additional materials, technology and access are listed on each corresponding course or camp page for your convenience. These are also listed on this FAQ page. • Who can attend summer camp?
Campers ages 10-16. For Summer 2023 Camps: For campers who will by 10 by the summer: If you are pre-purchasing bundles of courses for your children and they are not yet 10 years old, as long as they turn that age at least one day before the camp starts, you are welcome to enroll them in that the bundle now. For example, if your child is 9 right now, but will be 10 by June 21, 2023, you may enroll them in any course listed for children 10 years old on our site. If your child is 9, but will be 10 by July 12, 2023, you may enroll them in any of the July or August camps, etc. For campers who turn 17 during the summer: If your child is 16 on June 21, 2023 but has a birthday during the summer camp months June 2- August 31, 2023, they may still participate in our camps. If your child turns 17 June 21, 2023 or before, they are not eligible for our camps at this time.
  • What are Camp Partridge summer camps like?
Learn more about our summer camps on our page, About Our Camps!
  • How many hours can campers expect to spend on each camp?
It all depends upon how quickly the camper works, how dedicated they are to completing the projects assigned, as well as how much they engage with the community group. On average, if a camper participates in all of the above-mentioned activities as suggested in the camp, we estimate campers will spend about 15-20 hours completing one camp.
  • Are campers able to enroll in multiple camps?
Yes! Campers can be enrolled in as many camps as they would like! If your child only wants to work on a little content each week, they can be enrolled in one of our creator camp bundles. If your child wants to engage with more content and have more opportunity to engage with other campers in different Community Groups, we encourage them to enroll in multiple camps for the summer.
  • Can my children share camp spots/logins?
Short answer: No. Sharing of camp spaces between campers (even in the same family) is prohibited, and may cause your child to lose their camp access with out refund. (Please see our Refund page for more details.) Long answer: No. There are several reasons we require each camper to have their own camp spot. First, by each camper having their own spot, it gives them their own customized access to their courses. They get their own login page, they get their own camp completion page, and their own access to their community groups. With individual access to our camps, our campers can see and track their own personal camp progress (which helps them remember where they left off, and gives them incentive to finish), they can interact with the community group as themselves, sharing their work each day, and so much more. Second, our course instructor Ashley likes to get to know her campers. If multiple people were sharing the same camp spot and login for the community group, this would take away the true community feature that sets the camps apart from typical online camps. It would also make connecting with other campers in the community group impossible. We want all campers to have a great experience and to be able to connect with other members of our community. One camper per camp spot is one way to help ensure this.
  • What is Additional Required Technology?
Each summer camp for 2023 requires additional pieces of technology or specific apps in order to utilize all parts of each camp. I've listed all of the additional technology needed for each summer camp below. Note that some apps or websites utilized in our camps may have requirements such as setting up an account, parental approval needed, etc. It is the parent's responsibility to approve any account creation or app downloads. Please also read the External Links and Free Stock Photo Websites sections below as they apply to all summer camps as well.
  • External Links
Most of the learning provided for our summer camps is through original instructional videos and handouts created by our camp instructor, Ashley. Occasionally, campers may be directed to external links outside the closed Thinkific platform. Please know that these links are chosen with care to supplement and add to our camper's learning. Note that when campers click on these external links, Camp Partridge is not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites and we encourage you to read their privacy statements. Once a camper leaves our course website or are redirected to a third-party website or application, you are no longer governed by our website’s Privacy Policy or our website’s Terms of Service.
  • Free Stock Photo Websites
Most of our summer camps require access to photos for camps that involve web design, for digital art reference, for compositing in photo editing programs, etc. There are many great free resources for quality free photos that campers may use that do not break copyright laws. Camp Partridge will be sharing the following resources listed in this section to enable campers to find photos that are both free and copyright free. As each of these sites are image search sites, please decide with your child before camp starts which of the platforms below you are comfortable with them using. Some of the websites below have age limits for using, and out of courtesy, I’ve listed them beside the websites below. Again, the age limits posted below are current as of the last update of this Terms of Service agreement and may have changed. Please visit the websites linked below to determine if they are right for your child. Note: Campers are also welcome to take all their own photos for any projects, and do not have to use any of the sites listed below. These sites may simply make their work easier and may help them find photos they are unable to take. Stock photo sites: Pexels (users under 18 with parent permission ok) Pixabay (users under 16 with parent permission ok) Unsplash (ages 13 +) Creative Commons The Met (Open Access works only) National Gallery of Art (Open Access works only) Library of Congress
  • Website Building 101
You'll need a free Weebly account (ages 13+) or a free Google account (ages 10+). A computer is recommended to access this course. (These programs are harder to create on mobile devices.) Optional technology: For ages 13+, a free Canva account.
  • Digital Drawing and Animation with Procreate
You'll need an iPad, and the paid app Procreate, which is currently a one-time purchase of $9.99. The free app, Photoshop Mix. An Apple Pencil (or stylus) is HIGHLY recommended, but not required. To utilize the final video in this course, you'll also need iMovie.
  • Foundations of Smartphone Photography and Editing 101
An iPhone or iPad with a camera, and two apps (the free version of each): Snapseed and PicTapGo+. Ashley will use an iPhone and/or iPad camera for instruction. If you are a self-starter, you can use an Android device for this camp, as most of the camp is based upon composition, lighting and photo editing with Snapseed (which is available for Android). Note: If using an Android device, you will be unable to use one module of our camp (the module on PicTapGo+, as it is an app only for Apple devices). Optional materials: To create a DIY reflector and great background surface, I recommend white foam-core board. I really like the bi-fold kind. I typically use one white bi-fold piece and another single piece for my photos. I also really like to use the shiny silver pop-up car window shades as reflectors for my portrait photos. Here are some examples of the products I use: Pop-up car shade example. White foam-core board example. (Having both black and white foam core is helpful as well.) For ease of taking photos safely, I recommend a selfie stick and/or a Bluetooth remote. Here is a selfie stick with a Bluetooth remote. Here is a Bluetooth remote. A tripod is also recommended. Here is an example of a phone tripod. *Most of these listed Optional Materials are not required but will be helpful in all 3 of the photography camps.
  • Intermediate Smartphone Photography and Editing 201
An iPhone or iPad, and seven apps. 6 free apps: Snapseed Lens Distortions Photoshop Mix Photoshop Fix Waterbrush by BeCasso Clip2Comic by BeCasso. One paid app Pro Camera by Moment ($6.99), and the Pro Bundle Upgrade ($3.99). *See optional materials listed under the Foundations of Smartphone Photography and Editing 101 section above. Notes: Ashley will use an iPhone and/or iPad camera for instruction. If you are a self-starter, you can use an android device for this camp, as most of the camp is based upon composition and photo editing with Snapseed, Lens Distortions, Photoshop Mix and Photoshop Fix (which are available for android). If using an android device, you will be unable to use one module of our camp (the module on Turning Your Photos into Art, as this module uses two apps only for Apple devices). You will also not be able to access the second module, Custom Camera Control, as this is based upon the Apple app, Pro Camera by Moment. If you are 12+, and quick at picking up technology, you could use the Lightroom App's camera to follow along in this module and learn custom settings. Note, no specific instruction will be given on how to use Lightroom's app.
  • DSLR Photography for Beginners
You'll need a DSLR camera, which is a type of digital camera that you can manually control the settings and change lenses on. Any age or style DSLR camera will work for this course. I will be demonstrating most of the course with a Canon 80D. Most Canon DSLR cameras are similar and should be easy to follow along with. You can absolutely use other brands of cameras following this course, it just might take some help from our Community Group or YouTube to help you find where certain buttons or features are located on your specific camera. I will also be available to help in the Community Group throughout the month with as many questions as I can.
  • Photoshop 101
A computer with Photoshop downloaded to it. Adobe gives teacher and student discounts on the Adobe for Education website. You can typically find a subscription to Photoshop for only $10 per month after discount! Check the Adobe website for current pricing. Notes: Photoshop Elements (the Lite version of Photoshop) will not work with this course. This camp is specifically designed to teach campers how to use the full version of Photoshop. Also note that Photoshop does have some stronger system requirements to use the program. Make sure your computer can handle the program before downloading. You can find system requirements on the Adobe website.
  • What materials are needed for the fall novel writing camps?
You'll need a device with internet to access the camp. 📓 💻 Writers may write their novel in notebooks, or may type on Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or Apple Pages. ✍️ If campers plan to handwrite (suggested), they will need 6 (100 or 120 page) notebooks and writing utensils. (Even if campers plan to type, I still suggest having at least one notebook.) Campers may also use a handwriting note app such as Good Notes, Notability, etc. THESE NOTEBOOKS are my favorite- durable, easy to use, and you can flip the cover back easily. THESE PENCILS are my favorite- easy to use, lead (0.9mm) is hard to break and they last a long time! 👉 A binder with divider tabs is recommended for all to keep notes and handouts organized. THIS BINDER is my favorite- durable and easy to use! THESE TABS are my favorite- durable with a pocket! 📚 A copy of one of their favorite novels that they can keep with them for 3 months. (a challenge two weeks before camp will be posted using this book!) ➡️ Post-it arrow flags in 5 colors for marking their book (don't worry- they come off!). THESE ARROW FLAGS are my favorite! 👉 An additional materials list will be provided closer to camp time (after you've purchased the camp). These additional materials are books and resources that will help your novelist with their writing. The approximate cost of the additional optional materials is $50-$150 depending upon which materials you choose to purchase (and whether or not you purchase the digital or hard copy versions).
